CHICAGO, March 22 (Xinhua) -- One police officer and three other people were killed in a series of shootings in the U.S. state of Wisconsin on Wednesday, and one suspect has been in custody, local media reported.

The shooting spree apparently arose from a domestic dispute at a bank in Marathon County, then at a law firm and an apartment complex, Fox News quoted officials as saying.

Dozens of police and emergency vehicles first rushed to a Marathon Savings Bank in the village of Rothschild and found two people had been shot dead.

Another shooting was reported about 10 minutes later at a law firm in nearby Schofield City before a third one occurred in an apartment complex in Weston at around noon.

A standoff between police and the suspect lasted for several hours near the apartment complex. The exchange of gunfire ended at about 5 p.m. (2300 GMT).

Investigations are under way, police said.
