LOS ANGELES, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- At least four people were killed and two others injured after a small plane crashed into a residential neighborhood in Riverside, California, on Monday.

The plane was carrying a couple from San Jose and their three teenage children, who were returning home after a cheerleading competition in Anaheim, a city in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.

The Cessna 310 took off from Riverside Municipal Airport, about 100 km east of Los Angeles, and crashed half a mile away at about 4:45 p.m. local time (0045 GMT Tuesday), local media reported.

Video from the scene showed the crash threw debris and set houses ablaze.

One person who died was believed to be a resident of one of the houses. But officials were not certain whether the remaining known fatalities were from the plane or on the ground, according to Los Angeles Times.

Officials had said earlier that four were dead and one of the injured was a resident on ground.
