Phnom Penh (FN), Jan 11 – Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP)’s permanent committee and standing committee summoned an urgent meeting on Sunday this week to discuss the resignation of

CNRP’s president Sam Rainsy, according to CNRP’s senior official.

"We do not know who is going to be the president and that tomorrow’s agenda will cover who is going to take the position," said CNRP’s senior official.

Sam Rainsy posted on Facebook on Saturday, saying he resigned from position as president of CNRP. He said, "Please the permanent committee and standing committee of the Cambodia National Rescue Party be informed of my decision and this decision becomes effect from the date of my signature."

This resignation was believed to be motivated by the fact that 60 CPP’s representatives requested the National Assembly to enact a new law to remove Sam Rainsy's presidency because Rainsy was criminally charged.

There was also rumors relating to Rainsy's sexual affairs with a waitress at a restaurant. The scandal is a huge issue for political leaders around the world.
