Phnom Penh (FN), Jan 23 - The National Assembly (N.A) decided to hold an extraordinary meeting on Jan. 31, 2017 to review the amendment of Article 48 (III) of an Internal Regulation following a permanent committee’s meeting this Monday morning, according to Chheang Vun, Chairman of the N.A’s Commission on Foreign Affairs, Information, and Media.

The proposed amendment was initiated by Prime Minister Hun Sen, claiming that the current one violates the court jurisdiction and that it has been used to lobby for the release of prisoners. The proposal, dated Jan. 19, 2017, was signed by 55 lawmakers from Cambodian People’s Party (CPP).

If the amendment is successful, Acting President of Cambodian National Rescue Party Kem Sokha will lose his title as “Minority Leader”, nominated in December 06, 2016.
