Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 10 – Cambodia has agreed with ASEAN members states to postpone the ASEAN-US Special Summit, according to Cambodian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson Chum Sounry on Thursday.

“Currently, Indonesia serves as the country coordinator for the partnership between ASEAN and the US. A Special ASEAN-US Summit has been proposed by the latter and accepted by ASEAN leaders. Dates were proposed for that Summit and Indonesia has tried her best to coordinate and find the ones suitable for all Leaders. Unfortunately, the proposed dates, both from ASEAN and from the US, were not convenient for our leaders due to their respective heavy agenda. For that reason, both sides, ASEAN and the US decided to postpone the Summit and continue to work for a mutually convenient date.”

“Cambodia, as the Chair of ASEAN, has been flexible with regards to the proposed dates and has made special arrangements on domestic agenda to fulfill its regional and international duties. But for leaders' convenience and possible attendance, Cambodia has agreed with ASEAN Members States to postpone the meeting,” the spokesperson added.
