Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 12 – The government of Japan provided an additional concessional loan worth of USD 185 million to Cambodia to fight against COVID19.

The agreement was signed on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen at the Peace Palace.

According to the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), the loan will be allocated to implement the Royal Government’s policy to maintain welfare and socio-economic activities during the pandemic, in particular providing social assistance for the poor and vulnerable households.

The COVID19 outbreak has cost Cambodia USD 2.3 billion in terms of spending to save people’s lives.

In 2020, the Japanese government provided Cambodia a COVID19 crisis loan worth more than USD 237 million and this loan has yet allocated.

So far, the Japanese government has donated COVID19 vaccines, ambulances, and medical equipment, worth more than USD 60 million to Cambodia to fight against COVID19.
