HANOI, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) — Death toll from heavy rain in the central region of Vietnam has risen to 25 as of Monday morning, said the country's Department of Natural Disaster Prevention and Control (DNDPC) on Monday.

According to a report by the department, heavy rain over the past few days has also left four missing and 18 others injured.

Among the dead, Vietnam's central Quang Binh province reported the highest figure of 18, central Ha Tinh reported three while there were four deaths in central Nghe An and Thua Thien-Hue provinces, said the report on DNDPC's website.

Downpours also left 25 houses collapsed, 949 unroofed and damaged while 121,287 other houses were flooded.

As many as 3,138 hectares of rice and 11,534 hectares of crop were inundated while 4,588 hectares of aquaculture were submerged, said the department.
