Phnom Penh (FN), June 23 – In a meeting with Senior Minister, Minister without Portfolio, and Secretary General of the Cambodian Mine Authority Ly Thuch, the U.S. Ambassador to Cambodia William A. Heidt touted Cambodia as a leading country in the field of demining and for including it as a priority in the 18th Sustainable Development Goal.

With a pledge of $100,000 of funding support to the government for demining, the Ambassador said the U.S. government is committed to support the Cambodian government and would also call on all development partners to continue to support the Cambodian government in regard of demining, according to Mr. Ly Thuch.

“On behalf of Samdech Prime Minister Hun Sen, and the chairman of the mine authority, I would like to thank the U.S. government and the American people for providing support to the Royal Government of Cambodia in terms of funding, facilities and other resources through both national and international operators, a move that constitutes a share of the Cambodian government’s burden in demining,” Mr. Ly Thuch was quoted as saying.
