Phnom Penh (FN), June 20 – Police forces of the A-9 unit of the Ministry of Interior’s anti-drug department conducted a raid on June 20, 2016 on drug trafficking and arrested a Laotian drug-ring leader with around 2kg of methamphetamine in Preah Vihear province, about 400 km to the north-west of Phnom Penh.

The drug-raid was conducted under a direct order from Senior General Neth Savoeun, national police general commissioner; Gen. Khieu Samorn, director of anti-drug department; Gen. Mok Chito, deputy commissioner general and with coordination of Preah Vihear provincial court’s prosecutor Ly Lun.

Yin Panharith, Chief of A-9 unit, who led the operation to crack down on drug trafficking that resulted in the arrest of the Laotian told Fresh News today June 20, 2016 that the raid on cross-border drug trafficking was launched at Kampong Sralao commune, Chheb district, Preah Vihear.

A Laotian man, identified as BOUN MONE, 52, from Moeung Sinh district, Nam Tha province of Laos with two kilograms of crystal met was arrested, the officer said.

Panharith said that during the operation another Laotian man jumped into the nearby river to escape, but was also arrested by the Laotian side. “Once receiving the order from the higher-level, we organized our forces to conduct the operation and searches of the crime and ultimately arrested the suspect who is currently in custody pending completion of the legal case to be handed over to the court,” said the A-9 Unit’s chief.
