Phnom Penh (FN), June 17 – A huge ship transporting thousands of Brahman breed cattle from Australia docked at Sihanoukville Autonomous Port this morning of June 17, 2016 at the order of the company SLN Meat-Supplies Co. Ltd. It will be the first time that a slaughterhouse has imported alive cattle to be slaughtered for sale in Cambodian markets when there have been so far only small-scale refrigerated beef available.

Mr. Bun Vannarith, company’s representative, told Fresh News this morning that a total of 2,766 young Brahman oxen from Australia have been brought to Cambodia via a huge ship named Greyman Express that docked at Sihanoukvill port this morning under the order of the company and in collaboration with Australia.

“If we find out that consumers are happy with and like the products, we will then expand our markets to other neighboring countries,”Vannarith said.

SLN has invested $50 million in the business, building the first modern infrastructure and largest slaughterhouse in ASEAN located on National Road 3, at Prek Teal village, Tekk Thla commune, Prey Nob district, Preah Sihanouk province. The company is importing the world’s famous Brahman cattle for meat to be served not only markets in Cambodia but also in other countries namely China, Thailand and Vietnam.

The cattle left Australia on June 10, 2016 and arrived Sihanoukville port on June 17, 2016.
