BARCELONA, Spain, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- One person is dead and at least six people were injured after a passenger train derailed Tuesday morning in Eastern Spain, the country's railway operator Renfe said in a statement.

The accident occurred at 6:15 am local time (0515 GMT) in the town of Vacarisses, Catalonia, as a train running on Line R4 veered off the tracks. Some 150 hundred people were on the train at the time of the accident.

The region has seen heavy rain in the past few days, triggering floods and landslides in many places.

Those injured are being treated by emergency medical services and some of them are being transferred to local hospitals, Renfe said.
