Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 12 - Cambodia’s longest traditional race boat was officially recognized as the “World’s Longest Boat” by Guinness World Record on Monday in an official ceremony held in Prey Veng province, where boat building is specialized, as the province borders the Mekong and has many lakes.

The official breaking record ceremony was presided over by Interior Minister Sar Kheng; Guinness World Record representative Pravin Patel; President of the Union of Youth Federation of Cambodia (UYFC) Hun Many; and Head of Boatbuilding Committee Sar Sokha.

According to Sar Sokha, the boat is 87.3 metres long and 1, 99 metres wide and can hold 179 people and that it took over $50,000 and more than seven months to complete. It has surpassed China’s 77.8 meters record boat.

He added that the purpose of building this longest boat is to attract tourists as well as showing other achievements. The longest boat will be exhibited to the public during Water Festival holiday, and at Veal Preah Mehru for a minimum of 10 days.

Over the last five years, the The Kingdom has three records on the books already, including the world’s longest woven scarf in 2018, measuring at 1,149-meter; in 2015’s Khmer New Year festival in Siem Reap, 2,015 people danced the Madison; and in 2014 was the largest two-ton sticky rice cake, Num Ansom.
