NEW DELHI, May 30 (Xinhua) -- At least 24 people were killed in the north Indian states of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand due to thunderstorm and cloudbursts, officials said on Monday.

In Uttar Pradesh 18 people were killed in thunderstorm.

"The recurrent thunderstorm in various parts of the state since Friday evening has claimed 18 lives," an official said.

The deaths were reported mainly due to uprooting of trees and collapsing of structures.

In Uttarakhand six people were killed in heavy rains triggered by a series of cloudbursts in Tehri and Uttarkashi districts.

The cloudbursts triggered flash floods in the affected districts.

Last week 23 people were killed after lightening and thunderstorm struck western and central parts of Uttar Pradesh.

The downpour has led to drastic drop in temperature in the two states turning weather pleasant.

Meteorological department officials have predicted similar conditions for next two days.
