Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 21 – Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia Hun Sen arrived in the Republic of Turkey on Saturday for a working visit from 20-22 October 2018, at the invitation of the Government of the Republic of Turkey.

In Turkey, Prime Minister presided over the opening of Cambodian-Turkish Business Forum; delivered keynote speech; and witnessed the signing ceremony of Cooperation Agreement between Cambodia Chamber of Commerce and Turkey Chamber of Commerce.

Delivering the speech, Prime Minister stated that the volumes of Cambodia-Turkey’s trade, investment, and tourism are still limited, and that required further cooperation.

According to the Strongman, Cambodia’s total trade worth in 2017 reached US$25,600 million, an equivalent to 115% of GDP; however, for the first nine months of 2018, Turkey only had three projects in Cambodia with an investment of $11 million. On tourism, among the 5.6 million international tourists visiting Cambodia in 2017. For the first eight months in 2018, among the four million tourists, only 5,000 Turkish tourists visited Cambodia.

“Based on the figure, we can see Cambodia-Turkey cooperation is still limited, thus I’d like to urge for the direct flights,” said the premier.

Cambodian foreign affairs ministry stated in the press release that Cambodia and Turkey will sign a number of Agreements and Memorandums of Understanding regarding cooperation in the areas of culture, education, sport, agriculture, water resources, tourism, investment, and mine action.
