Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 12 - Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen led the senior delegation back home this afternoon having participated Mekong-Japan Summit in Japan and ASEAN Leaders’ Gathering in Indonesia for over a week.

Prime Minister Hun Sen attended the 10th Mekong-Japan Summit from 6-10 October 2018 in Tokyo, Japan, at the invitation of the Government of Japan.

Marking the 10th Anniversary of the Mekong-Japan mechanism, the Leaders agreed to elevate this cooperation to a strategic partnership level. The Leaders adopted the “Tokyo Strategy 2018 for Mekong-Japan Cooperation” which encompasses three pillars, namely (i) Vibrant and Effective Connectivity, (ii) People-Centered Society, and (iii) Realization of a Green Mekong along with its detailed concrete Action Plan. The Strategy 2018 is in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals, the Free and Open Indo-Pacific Strategy, and the ACMECS Master Plan, according to Cambodian ministry of foreign affairs’ press release dated on Wednesday.

Head of the Royal Government of Cambodia then attended ASEAN Leaders' Gathering held from 10-12 October 2018 in Bali, Indonesia. The ASEAN Leaders’ Gathering was held under the theme “ Achieving SDGs and Overcoming Development Gap through Regional and Global Collaborative Actions” in conjunction with the Annual Meeting Plenary of the Board of Governors of International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Group (WBG).

According to the Premier’s Facebook page, all parties have achieved great results, where leaders of Mekong-Japan and ASEAN leaders focused on enhancing cooperation; promoting new strategic plans; improving connectivity and people's welfare to ensure progress in the region and the world.
