Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 7 - Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Tram Iv Tek met with Manika Jain, Ambassador of the Republic of India to Cambodia, to initiate a trial Digital Village, which will promote the development of the Information and Communication Technology for rural areas in Cambodia.

The meeting was held at the ministry of Posts and Telecommunications Phnom Penh on Tuesday.

Digital Village project focuses on farmers and agriculture by determining a system to inform farmers on farming practices and agricultural markets to facilitate rural farmers who do not have access to information, according to the ministry's spokesman Im Vutha.

Through the discussion, the Indian side decided to select Treang district of Takeo province as the first test site to implement the Digital Village project.

The project is responsible by Telecommunications of Consultants India Limited (TCIL) following the visit of her senior officials and technical experts to Cambodia on 24-25 July 2018.

With this new project, Cambodia and India continued to strengthen their cooperation on posts, telecommunications, and information technology sectors.
