Phnom Penh (FN), July 12 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has decided to suspend the public from selling and consuming alcoholic beverages a day before and the day of National Assembly member election, according to the Royal Government’s guideline issued on 6 July 2018.

The Royal Government of Cambodia has observed that all kinds of alcoholic beverages can cause violence, traffic accidents, social accidents, incidents, as well as social chaos.

He urged salesmen and saleswomen to suspend selling alcohols and the public to halt alcohol consumption during election and to avoid the deaths or injuries due to alcohols; and hoped that the election would proceed smoothly, freely, and fairly without any violence and threats.

Prime Minister Hun Sen said that the government put so much efforts for the safety and security of people during the electoral process; the nation’s priority is to ensure a free and fair election.

During his address in the meetings with thousands of garment workers, he also reminded all the 20 registered parties and candidates not use state budget, petroleum, and any other state properties during the electoral campaign.

The July's election will be held on 29 July 2018. All the 20 political parties will participate in the 21 days of electoral campaign from 7-27 July 2018.
