PHNOM PENH (FN), April 4 – Minister of Tourism Thong Khon proposed to the government to provide visa exemption to Russian visitors so that they could come to visit Cambodia as conveniently as in other countries in the region.

The request was made at a meeting between many private tourism businesses with representatives of the Ministry of Tourism and relevant officials at the Ministry of Tourism on April, 4.

“During the winter in their country, most Russians spend the time for holidays overseas, and out of 100 Russians, only 16 have passports. That means only 16 percent of the nearly 156 million Russians hold passports,” said the Minister.

“Seeing that number of Russian tourists is on the increase and in consideration of the issue, the Russian government as well as private tourism businesses would like to propose to the Government for visa exemption and an ease of restrictions on passports for Russian tourists with a view to bringing as many of them as possible to visit Cambodia,” Thong Khon said.
